Volunteer Driver Application Process

If you are a parent or other adult that would like to be a volunteer driver to transport students to and from robotics events, you must be approved by the district. The process is fairly straightforward and is outlined in an email from Judy George from the district business services office. Her email is on the district staff page and her phone number is (650) 940-4666.

In our district, the parents can of course drive their own children without our permission.

To drive other students, they must:

  • Fill out a MVLA School District Volunteer Driver Application to be approved as a volunteer driver.
  • Provide a current DMV report (these are now available online for $2 at dmv.ca.gov - make an account and select Obtain a Copy Online of your Driver Record)
  • Provide a copy of their driver’s license
  • Provide a copy of the page of their auto insurance policy that verifies 1) the applicant is a named insured driver, and 2) they carry our required minimum of $100,000/$300,000 in the bodily injury liability section.

They can mail or bring or fax or scan/email all those items to me and I generally review them right away.
